What Do People Ask?
Most Popular Questions
Every day, our clients pose insightful questions that contribute to their health and rehabilitation progress. We’d like to share these questions and their answers with you.
WCB
Yes, we do treat WCB injury claims. Your treatments will be covered if the Workers Compensation Board approves your workplace injury claim.
After an initial assessment with your physiotherapist, they will fill out the appropriate forms and fax them to WCB. WCB will provide a decision regarding physiotherapy treatments.
If WCB approves your injury claim, they will typically cover 18 subsequent treatments and 1 initial assessment.
Our team will inform you once WCB adjudicates your claim.
Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI)
Manitoba Public Insurance covers treatment related to injuries that are sustained from a motor vehicle accident. You will have to obtain a Bodily Claim Number from MPI (different from the Vehicle Claim Number) and provide this information to our clinic. Typically MPI will approve up to 25 physiotherapy sessions or more, depending on your severity of injuries.
No, physiotherapists are primary care practitioners. While it's helpful if you have seen a doctor and they can provide their diagnosis and relevant x-ray or lab results, it is not required. You can have an assessment by a physiotherapist first, and the assessment results and recommendations are then shared with your doctor for their information and feedback.
Individual needs vary, but as a general guideline, an annual appointment before your yearly doctor's check-up can be highly beneficial. This ensures both you and your doctor have up-to-date information on your physical health status. Before starting a strengthening program, it is especially recommended to address any potential muscle or joint issues, preventing pain or injury.
Suppose your insurance is through the Workers Compensation Board, Manitoba Public Insurance, Canadian Force Bases, or Manitoba Blue Cross. In that case, we need your insurance card or insurance information containing your certificate or policy numbers. We need your claim number for those covered by the Workers Compensation Board. If you have Manitoba Public Insurance coverage, we require your bodily injury claim number.
When scheduling your first appointment, we will accommodate your preferred clinician, date of appointment and time. We will require some personal information such as your name, phone number, date of birth, email for appointment notification purposes and information regarding the purpose of your visit. Please arrive 10 minutes early to fill out some initial forms, or you can download them and bring them with you.
Bring comfortable clothes depending on what body part you wish to be assessed. For example, if you are here to address a shoulder problem, then it is recommended that you bring a loose T-shirt or tank top. Don’t worry, we do provide gowns or shorts if necessary.
During your first appointment, we will thoroughly assess the findings, start treating the injury, and give you a personalized exercise program. We will also discuss a treatment plan with you at that time.
Absolutely! Our clinic focuses on an active approach, so the answer is a straightforward YES!
But exercise does not necessarily mean running, push-ups or burpees!
Our therapists are skilled in guiding individuals at every fitness level, whether you're an athlete or new to exercising. Exercises are typically done in the clinic under the guidance of a physiotherapist to address any questions and ensure correct technique.
Your physiotherapist will inquire about your condition and its onset. Gathering information about your health history helps the therapist understand possible contributors to your current state and ensures awareness of any other conditions that may affect your care. Additionally, your therapist may ask about:
- The nature of your pain, including its location and intensity.
- Your personal and family medical history.
- Medications you're currently taking.
- Any recent or past treatments you have undergone.
- The physical demands of your job, lifestyle, or leisure activities, and how your injury or condition impacts your daily life.
- Your goals and expectations for therapy.
On your initial visit, your physiotherapist will create a treatment plan based on your diagnosis and assessment. We will recommend an appropriate treatment plan that is right for you. Every injury and person is different - we will discuss the plan with your input and make the right decision together as a collaborative team.
